I’m Rebecca Roache. Hello!

I have a PhD in philosophy from Cambridge and since 2006 I’ve worked as an academic philosopher, first at the University of Oxford and now at the University of London. I’m the author of the book, For F*ck’s Sake: Why Swearing is Shocking, Rude, and Fun, which you should feel free to buy immediately. For more on my publication shenanigans, see my admittedly in-need-of-updating academic website. I’ve nattered about philosophy in various bits of the media, including The New York Times, BBC, The Guardian, The Times, Harper’s Magazine, MIT Technology Review, Aeon, Slate, and countless podcasts.

Life hasn’t always been a walk in the park. I’ve fought my way to where I am through unemployment, homelessness, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and an abusive relationship. I’m a single parent to two top-notch kiddos, and we share our home with 3 cats and various plants whose lives are constantly in peril (just the plants, that is - not the cats).

I started coaching in 2020, when I realised that as (1) a ninja at philosophical analysis who (2) has been through some scrapes and (3) has come out happy, fighting, and successful, I have a unique combination of qualifications and experience that I can use to help people solve their problems. I love coaching. I love seeing people unfurl and flourish before my eyes, and I know I rock at it - yeah, even if I do say so myself.

I believe that, in order to flourish, you don’t need magic. You don’t even need willpower. You already have what you need - you just need to tap into it. You need to accept all that you are, flaws and all, and bend the world to fit you rather than vice versa. (It’s not as dramatic or woo-woo as it sounds, trust me. I have hacks. I’m a fully paid-up success-loophole-exploiter.)

Dump perfectionism. Flourish on your own terms!
